Canvas is a fabric woven with the simplest canvas weave, simply by crossing the warp and weft. Rigid canvas was made mainly of flax and hemp, today mostly of cotton and man-made fibers. The canvas has long been the only commonly available fabric from which clothes and linen were sewn. Today it is used, for example, for bed linen (sheets) or fashion accessories (durable bags, backpacks). Canvas in fashion has been around since the early days of clothing design. In the 18th century, canvas became popular for making clothes because it didn’t wrinkle like other fabrics.
