Fairtrade means fairer business conditions, respect for human and labor rights and respect for the environment. As the global economy has become increasingly integrated, the issue of international trade has come to the forefront for many consumers and organizations. With a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of economies and communities around the world, there is a growing interest in ensuring that trade is conducted fairly. This is where fair trade comes in. Fair trade is an approach to business and commerce that puts people and planet before profit. It seeks to create more equitable trading relationships between producers in developing countries and businesses and consumers in developed countries. In doing so, it aims to empower disadvantaged producers, improve social and environmental conditions in their communities, and contribute to sustainable development. The fair trade movement began in the 1940s with initiatives focused on labor rights. In response to poor working conditions faced by agricultural laborers in Latin America, European NGOs started campaigning for change.
