First emerging in the early 1900s, three-quarter pants were designed as a more comfortable and breathable alternative to the heavy wool trousers typically worn by men at the time. often made from a lighter weight cotton or linen fabric, they became popular among young men during the summer months. In Europe, they were commonly seen on sailors and fishermen, while in America they were worn by golfers and tennis players. By the 1920s, three-quarter pants had become a fashion staple for both men and women.
